Basisklasse

Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.)

Über das Programm

All students of Fine Arts and Art for gymnasium teaching begin together with the orientation year. 'Free Work' in the class studio is at the center of teaching and studying in the BASIC CLASS. The aim is to encourage and accompany experimentation with different forms of expression and the development of individual questions. Practical tasks support the 'Free Work'. In the first practical work, regardless of the use of the chosen media, the aim is to find out how format, resolution and materiality relate to individual conceptions and questions and can be further developed in relation to forms of presentation. Fundamentals in drawing, painting, sculpture, performance and so-called new media procedures are also offered and supervised through practical exercises by lecturers and guest lecturers. In cooperation with the workshop leaders, students can familiarize themselves with the technical possibilities within the art college in the course of implementing their artistic projects. This offer is expanded through thematic workshops and jointly developed exhibition projects in the studio and outdoor space. In the project room of the BASIC CLASS, students can test presentation forms and realize large-format works and, in particular, space-related projects. The colloquium takes place in the class studio, where, among other things, the ability to reflect on one's own actions and to test forms of communication and representation is trained. The contents of the colloquiums start with the work and life realities of the students. It will deal with specific core topics developed together, with the reflection of historical and current artistic positions that enable students to locate their work approaches. Theoretical knowledge is imparted in the format of a seminar. This combines diverse artistic confrontations in different media and current social and societal topics. The role of the artist is in constant change, which is why the teaching offer will also open up the history of artistic self-understanding and update it through lectures, excursions and studio visits to freelance artists. The practical work from the basic year is documented in the form of a portfolio and selected work samples are presented at the annual exhibition Insight/Outlook. This forms the basis for the transfer to various specialist classes (sculpture/graphics/ceramics/painting/media/interdisciplinary artistic practice).
