Über das Programm
The Bachelor's degree programme in Composition prepares graduates both for a working life in complex artistic fields of work as well as for further specialization in corresponding master's degree courses. Students who choose this program pursue the goal of developing, profiling and unfolding an independent artistic personality. The central objective is the development of an independent and discerning artistic personality, which includes the acquisition of a profound composition technique, the development of an individual sound language, the analysis of the music of the 20th and 21st centuries, and the examination of contemporary compositional aesthetics and discourses of contemporary music. During the course of study, students also acquire fundamental and in-depth knowledge of a wide variety of instrumental and vocal techniques. Graduates benefit from the international wide-ranging network of the HfM Würzburg and establish numerous contacts with other composers during their studies. At the end of the degree programme, graduates can create extensive works on their own, notate them in accordance with due practice, organize concerts, and establish the networks necessary to get their works performed. Professional composers are almost entirely freelancers who should be successful on the free market, including performances and composition commissions in all areas: from solo and chamber music, ensemble, orchestra, musical theatre and vocal music to electronics and performative formats.
