Mechanical Engineering (MEB)

Doctorate

Über das Programm

Study Programme The new degree programme in Mechanical Engineering (MEB) provides a classical foundation in mechanical engineering and process engineering. The broad and interdisciplinary education enables graduates to work in all areas of the modern economy. In addition to indispensable basics such as mathematics, mechanics, and thermodynamics, integration and application, subjects such as design, finite element method, and plant planning are taught. The global sustainability aspect is an important pillar of the programme and is considered, for example, in courses such as bioengineering, environmental process engineering and physical process engineering. Within the Engineering Basics course and during the practical phase, initial contacts with the regional industry will be established, representing the beginning of further employment in the regional economy and the long-term establishment of the study programme. The programme concludes with a thesis integrated with a Bachelor's colloquium. After completing the Bachelor's programme in Mechanical Engineering (MEB), there is an opportunity (requires further language qualifications) to pursue a Master's degree in the Engineering and Management programme, for example. Study Goals and Qualification Objectives Upon completion, graduates will have a solid foundation in essential mechanical engineering and process engineering fundamentals, along with a broad knowledge of practical application and a solid understanding of methods and techniques in the following areas: Mechanical basics (statics, kinetics) and component dimensioning for the functional and strength-oriented development and design of component systems Manufacturing fundamentals for the economical design of components CAX-based systems (CAD, numerics, programming) Process and energy engineering fundamentals for the planning and development of process engineering components and systems A solid basis of the German language Employability of Graduates The classical, comprehensive education in mechanical engineering/process engineering enables graduates to work in all relevant industrial sectors. This includes the development and design of mechanical products, machinery and equipment, among others, for process engineering processes. This encompasses production machinery for the automated assembly of pump systems or wastewater treatment plants, for example. In practice, it is evident that a classical education lays the proven foundation for further specialisations within companies. Additionally, graduates of the new programme will distinguish themselves through important soft skills, which can be acquired in modules such as Engineering Basics and Projects in Mechanical Engineering or Process Engineering. Possible Fields of Employment Graduates can find employment with mechanical engineering and process engineering companies in Saarland, Germany and abroad. The well-known professional profile of a study programme that balances disciplines from mechanical engineering and process engineering opens up opportunities in all typical industry companies, institutions and research facilities at home and all over the world.
