Structural Engineering

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

Über das Programm

Structural Engineering focuses on planning, design, construction, and operation of buildings in the areas of structural, civil, transportation, and hydraulic engineering. The Bachelor's program first provides a general engineering, mathematical, and scientific education. The core curriculum covers classical structural subjects such as statics, concrete and steel construction. Students learn to solve essential building problems and study foundation principles and soil mechanics in geotechnical engineering. The program includes international construction principles as well as national regulations and standards. Construction management teaches intensive knowledge about handling large construction projects including quality assurance and economic aspects. Environmental and scientific aspects are covered in urban water management and hydraulic engineering modules. The program has an international orientation to help students address environmental problems in their countries. Graduates have numerous employment opportunities both nationally and internationally, particularly in the currently flourishing building construction sector in foreign metropolises and in environmental technology.

The program follows a structured curriculum: The first year provides a broad grounding in engineering and natural sciences principles, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, and fundamentals of mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering. All lectures during the first year are held in English. After the first year, students focus on their chosen discipline with tailored content. The program includes core subjects, electives for specialization, an industrial internship for practical experience, non-technical subjects to strengthen general education and linguistic competence, and a project where students work in groups using scientific methods. The program concludes with a Bachelor thesis demonstrating the student's ability to process engineering problems autonomously using scientific methods.
