Über das Programm
The Bachelor's program in Technical Medicine combines engineering sciences with medical fundamentals and offers interdisciplinary training tailored to the requirements of the modern medical technology industry. Students acquire skills and methods that promote scientific work and critical thinking, preparing them to master the complex challenges of medical technology. They learn to apply scientific methods specifically for the analysis and solution of demanding technical and biological questions at the interfaces between technical systems and biological structures. A special feature of the program is the close cooperation with the Medical Faculty and the University Hospital in Essen. This provides students with a 'real' basic medical education, which makes up one-third of the basic courses and covers topics such as anatomy, medical terminology, physiology, and biochemistry. The direct insight into medical practice and research opens up a unique opportunity for them to move confidently in the medically influenced areas of medical technology and to actively shape them. The program leads to a professionally qualifying degree that qualifies graduates for activities as medical technology engineers in a variety of fields. Career opportunities can be found in research and development, project planning, sales, commissioning, maintenance, and quality and process control. The Bachelor's degree also offers the opportunity to continue studies in the consecutive, research-oriented Master's program in Medical Technology.
