Alte Welt

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

"Alte Welt" (Ancient World) is an innovative interdisciplinary study program. The subject of the course is the teaching of interdisciplinary, broad basic knowledge in disciplines that deal with antiquity in Europe and the Middle East. The essential pillars of the Ancient World, namely history, language history, writing history, art history, literary history, mythology, archaeology, and basic methodology are taught in the compulsory area. From this broad ancient studies core, students specialize with elective modules. The choice of minor subject is of particular importance - especially with regard to later Master's studies. The program offers an interdisciplinary overview of the entire Ancient World and introduces various ancient studies subjects in great breadth. The specialization for a later Master's degree is achieved by choosing a corresponding minor subject (or major subject) and by individually selecting courses from the elective area of the Ancient World program.
