Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

Arabistik/Islamwissenschaft (Arabic/Islamic Studies) is a consecutive Master's partial degree program with a strong research orientation. The Halle Master's program is characterized by its content focus on Arabic literature of the Early Modern Period (16th-18th centuries). Students work with original language sources and engage with different areas and epochs of the history and culture of Muslim societies, considering current research. They are supported in developing their own interest and research profile, also depending on their other partial degree program. Students can choose from various methodological, linguistic, and regional focuses. The collaboration with partner institutes in Leipzig and Jena within the university network further expands the academic offerings. The research-oriented Master's program enables students to work scientifically, deepens language skills, and imparts high textual and intercultural competence. The program prepares for work in academic and scientific fields, as well as for activities in international organizations, integration work, policy consulting, development cooperation, export-oriented companies, journalism and media work, and cultural and educational institutions.
