Architecture

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

Drafting, engineering, and design are the core topics of this master's degree program. Continuing with what was learned in the bachelor's degree program, you will deepen your knowledge by independently working on ever more complex architectural tasks. This unites sustainable planning, ecological care, and social responsibility with a technologically ambitious approach. The master's course is applied in the best sense of the term and is enriched with research topics from the department. In the individual semester project, you are supervised by lecturers from the departments of architecture, engineering, and art. This semester project is the largest module and the focus of the first three semesters. In advanced modules, current and historical developments in construction history and architectural theory are discussed. Seminars on digital drafting and construction processes complement the subjects offered. On excursions, specific skills are developed in architectural discourse and/or freehand drawing. Students benefit from the creative atmosphere of the city of Dessau, with its history characterized by the UNESCO world heritage site Bauhaus. After completing the program, graduates are qualified for project management and leadership positions in architectural offices and company as well as for work in the "höherer Dienst" with the federal, state, or municipal government agencies. The master's degree qualifies graduates to begin a doctorate.
