About the Program

Based on the skills acquired in the Bachelor's programme, the M.A. programme in Art History expands and deepens the methodological repertoire as well as the knowledge of objects with regard to technique, genre and epoch of their creation as well as reception. The programme offers various study options including Single Honours MA with study focus on 'curatorial studies' or 'material humanities', Joint Honours MA, and Module packages. The M.A. programme with specialisation in 'Curatorial Studies' combines practical ways of dealing with originals with reflection on theory and history of artistic objects. In Göttingen, art history is taught in its entire historical and thematic breadth with special emphasis on the art history of the Middle Ages, early modern period in Italy, visual arts of the 19th century and modernity, historical theories of images and art, transcultural interconnections and modern artistic knowledge.
