About the Program

The Master's program 'Bigband - Playing, Writing, Leading' is centered around a unique cooperation with the hr-Bigband (Frankfurt Radio Big Band), one of the internationally leading ensembles of its kind. Students choose one of three specializations: Playing, Writing, or Leading, but receive instruction in all three areas, including from members of the hr-Bigband. They also receive instruction from artists of the national and international scene, whom they can freely choose in consultation with the program management. Additionally, there are workshops, excursions, observations, seminars, projects, and productions, including with the hr-Bigband. Students can gain experience in interdisciplinary ensembles in various music genres and in leading youth ensembles. They are individually supported in planning and implementing their own artistic projects.
