About the Program

This course accompanies the semester project in book design for students from the 5th semester onwards with Prof. André Heers and Prof. Annette le Fort. The focus is not on design decisions, but on their implementation with Adobe InDesign. Topics include paragraph, character and object styles, master pages, baseline grids and more to build working files that allow for quick and stress-free design changes later in the semester. The course also covers the structure of book covers and writing print files. Before designing texts, the course addresses the recognition and editing of scanned text and handling ePub files. While the beginning of the semester primarily focuses on teaching the above topics, the course will increasingly discuss individual projects and focus on student questions. The instructor will also demonstrate smaller functions in InDesign. This is a voluntary supplementary seminar to the main projects and does not offer credits.
