About the Program

Bookbinding combines craftsmanship precision, design decisions, and a sustainable approach to materiality. In this seminar, participants learn how to transform individual sheets into a bound book - from simple binding for personal sketchbooks to professional thread binding, cover design, and conservation-safe material selection. The workshops are practice-oriented: each technique is demonstrated step by step, practiced together, and applied in a personal project, resulting in repeatable craftsmanship and design competence. The seminar series is modular and suitable as both a compact introduction and advanced training, covering tool and material knowledge, paper expertise, basic binding techniques, thread binding, adhesive and hardcover techniques, cover design, repair and conservation, serial and experimental formats, and production practice with sustainability focus.
