About the Program

The interdisciplinary study program 'Classics' integrates the disciplines of Classical Archaeology, Ancient History, Greek Studies, and Latin Studies, providing a broad understanding of the archaeology, literature, and philology of Greek and Roman culture. The program is divided into two study phases: In the first two semesters, students acquire fundamental knowledge of the individual subjects and deepen or acquire language skills in Latin and Greek. From the 3rd semester onwards, students choose one discipline as a focus with a more comprehensive compulsory area. The program also offers insights into other ancient studies disciplines (Ancient Oriental Studies and Near Eastern Archaeology, Egyptology, Comparative Linguistics, Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archaeology) to gain an impression of global antiquity as a whole. The core profile of the program consists of bringing these individual disciplines together, enabling students to have a holistic approach to classical antiquity while maintaining strong disciplinary training.
