About the Program

The Master's programme in Computer Science is research-oriented, deepening core issues of computer science and imparting the ability to use methods and procedures for solving complex computational problems. The program aims to develop key qualifications such as presentation and moderation skills, as well as communication and teamwork skills. It prepares students to carry out scientific and technical work in research and development and for responsible management positions in software and hardware development projects. The program is structured with mandatory modules (60 LP), core modules (24 LP), and specialization modules (36 LP). Upon application, students choose one of the following specialization areas: Embedded Systems (English) - focuses on concepts, development methods and technologies for embedded systems used to control physical devices such as mobile phones, automotive engines or industrial robots; Visual Computing (English) - deals with methods of image generation and image analysis, especially computer graphics, image processing, visualization, computer vision, pattern recognition, and virtual and augmented reality; Medical Informatics (German and English) - provides in-depth education for applications in medical diagnostics and therapy as well as healthcare structure; Software Engineering - broadens and deepens competences in all core areas of computer science, especially programming techniques and efficient software development; and Theoretical Computer Science - gives deeper insight into methods from logic, algorithmics and complexity theory. The program is designed to be completed within four semesters, with the fourth semester dedicated to the Master's thesis.
