Master of Music (M.Mus.)

About the Program

The Master of Music in Conducting program consists of 4 semesters and awards 120 credit points. It is a two-year programme of full-time study. Those accepted enrol as students of the UdK and follow a programme of study as laid out in the "Studienordnung" listing all the modules that need to be completed. The program is suited to applicants intending to continue their conducting studies beyond Bachelor level, applicants who have received a Bachelor's degree in a related field and can demonstrate conducting proficiency, applicants who have not completed a Masters in Conducting at another institution, and applicants able to fulfill the German language requirements. The admission procedure includes a preselection round based on submitted video recordings, followed by auditions for selected candidates. The audition consists of two rounds: Round 1 involves rehearsal with orchestra of symphonic works and/or opera excerpts selected by the jury. Round 2 includes a written exam testing musical knowledge and ability, piano performance and sight-singing, an interview, and further rehearsal with orchestra. Basic piano skills are desirable though not required.
