About the Program

Cultural Studies examines the significance of cultural expressions in language, images, material objects, and practices in the past and present. Culture manifests in everyday phenomena and social processes, created by people. The program combines theory and empirical research with a focus on digital methods. Students can set their own focus areas during their studies and receive individual support. The interdisciplinary program draws perspectives from Empirical Cultural Studies, History, Literature, Political Science, Philosophy, Theology, Sociology, and Digital Humanities. Students become familiar with various manifestations and dimensions of culture, such as structures of everyday life, politics, law, religion, and art. The program also covers fundamental structures of human existence and historical processes of individualization, globalization, and medialization.
