About the Program

Dentistry is the science and practical application of dental medicine; the study is also a prerequisite for practicing as a dentist. As a future dentist, you will deal with the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases of the teeth, mouth, and jaw. You will acquire knowledge about human dental structure and dental schema, deal with the causes of dental diseases, learn to produce implants (e.g., dental fillings and prostheses), and reflect on how to interact with your future patients. The study of dentistry is characterized by diversity: it combines both medical and aesthetic approaches and imparts theoretical knowledge as well as manual-fine motor and social, communicative skills. The University Medical Center Mainz also deals with researching new dental approaches in addition to dental education. The program is divided into three major sections: First study section (1st-4th semester), Second study section (5th-6th semester), and Third study section (7th-10th semester), each concluding with a dental examination.
