About the Program

Focusing on one-to-one instruction to promote individual artistic development, the film university's Animation Direction M.F.A. program enables students to expand their artistic, technical, dramaturgical, and concept design skills. The master's program offers artistic freedom to deepen knowledge and skills and qualifies students for leading positions in animation productions. Students are instructed in planning animation productions and leading teams. The curriculum consists of In-depth Modules (Short Artistic Project, Artistic/Scientific Elective Module), Project Modules (Artistic Project Module – Animation I, II, and III), and a Graduation Module (Master's Thesis). Graduates find positions in animation studios in Germany and abroad as animators, directors, or specialists such as storyboard artists or character TDs. Many alumni establish themselves in visual arts producing animation auteur films or founding studios.
