About the Program

In the dual-subject degree program Asian and Islamic Art History, students learn methodologies and theories that will enable them to scientifically reflect on and extract new insights from the broad spectrum of art and architecture, the ongoing globalization of the art market, and the transcultural influences affecting the visual arts. This is an object-related science that puts objects into their cultural, social, religious and political context. The program deals with objects that mostly originate from a religious context as well as with profane and religious architecture. The core contents include providing students with sound knowledge of the scientific foundations of Asian and Islamic Art History, academic writing skills, overview of artworks, styles, and buildings of various geographic regions, and sensibility for transcultural questions. This subject must be combined with a second subject.
