English Literature and Culture Bachelor of Arts

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

This Bachelor's program focuses on the literature and cultures of the English-speaking world (except the USA, which is covered by American Studies). Students examine how texts communicate with readers and how this communication potential is used in different historical and regional contexts - from the Middle Ages to the present, from New Zealand to Nigeria to Scotland. The program has a high literary studies component, teaching methods needed to analyze texts from different periods and genres. It also has a significant cultural studies component, familiarizing students with British history and providing insight into politics and media of the English-speaking world. The program is complemented by language practice courses to develop written and oral communication skills. The curriculum is divided into three main aspects: Literary Studies (50%), Cultural Studies (25%), and Language Practice (25%). Students must complete a minimum 4-week professional internship in a company or organization. Alternatively, they can substitute study abroad, volunteer service, a summer school, or participation in a research project.
