About the Program

The study program of the "Ethics" subject in the Teaching in Secondary Schools program is oriented based on the requirements of the practice of teaching Ethics in secondary schools. The program imparts the subject-related and teaching-related principles for exercising the teaching profession in secondary schools and collects initial experiences in practical teaching in schools, following academic instruction. The program qualifies students for academic work and for the socially responsible execution of the teaching profession based on the acquired expertise. The university education provides future teachers with professional qualifications in order to analyze, plan, design and reflect educational processes in Ethics instruction in schools. Major topics include a systematic overview of various ethical positions with emphasis on Kantian philosophy and the philosophy of the Enlightenment, introduction to Ethics-related studies (Sociology, Political Science, Religious Studies and Theology), and teaching methodology oriented by the guiding discipline of Philosophy at Marburg.
