About the Program

The European Master in Classical Cultures is an international Master's program in Ancient Studies. Students complete this interdisciplinary study at at least two universities with different languages (maximum three). Graduates receive the master's degree from the universities where they studied and completed the corresponding academic requirements. Twelve universities from nine countries (Germany, France, Greece, Italy, Austria, Spain, Poland, Turkey, and Cyprus) are involved in the development of the program. The core area includes the three disciplines of Ancient History, Classical Philology, and Archaeology. The program provides students with in-depth knowledge and understanding of the history, literature, and material and intellectual legacies of Greco-Roman antiquity in the Mediterranean region and neighboring regions within a European and interdisciplinary framework. In addition, the program aims to strengthen students' linguistic and intercultural competencies and awareness of the self-evident nature of international cooperation. During the internship phase of the studies, students gain experience in leading institutions such as the German Archaeological Institute. A structural element of the program is a mentoring program that enables optimal support for students.
