Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln

About the Program

The conception and design of television formats has a tradition at KHM. In the basic seminar 'Live Direction', the rules and techniques of traditional live broadcasting are taught. It focuses on the formal possibilities of television: from magazines to talk shows to live broadcasts of music and sporting events. In practical testing, students alternately take on the different functions of camera, live editing, live direction, editorial work and moderation. In the main course of study, concepts for new formats are developed and produced - with intensive discussion of current distribution channels and design possibilities through the internet and VOD - and the results are then presented to editorial offices and production companies for criticism.
