About the Program

The object of the Finno-Ugrian Studies programme is the acquisition of knowledge about the language and culture of the Finno-Ugrian peoples of the Baltic-Scandinavian, Middle and Eastern European and Western Siberian regions, especially the Estonians, the Finns, the Hungarians, as well as the Saami and the related peoples living within the Russian Federation. The goal of the M.A. programme is the further development of the ability to do scientific work independently, the deepening of the knowledge of Finno-Ugrian linguistics and culture and the enhancement of the language skills already acquired during the B.A. programme. The research foci are on history of science, language contact, and the specific history of the Finno-Ugrians as a whole, with special attention to the Estonian region and the languages of the Wolga and Kama regions.
