About the Program

French Studies is a Bachelor's degree program focused on learning the French language and reflecting on the theories behind the French language, literature and culture. The program covers practical language courses (e.g., oral communication, text production, pronunciation) as well as lectures and seminars on linguistic, literary and cultural development and transformation processes. Students explore linguistics, cultural studies, literary studies and regional studies, with the option to choose individual specializations. The program is structured in three phases: a first phase (one year) where students acquire knowledge of language practice, linguistics and literary studies; a second phase where students expand and specialize their skills; and a third phase focused on specialization and independent academic work. FAU has active exchange programs with French universities including Aix-en-Provence, Caen, Limoges, and Rennes.
