Games Engineering

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

About the Program

Games Engineering focuses on the targeted provision and systematic use of principles, methods, and tools for the collaborative, engineering-based development and application of extensive software systems for computer games. Unlike related fields such as Game Design or Game Development, Games Engineering focuses on the design, development, and improvement of algorithms, engines, plugins, tools, and design patterns for the implementation of real-time interactive games and systems using current computer science methods. In addition to mathematical and computer science fundamentals, the Games Engineering program imparts knowledge and skills to develop new engines, dive deep into existing engines, analyze them, understand their basic concepts, extend or optimize them, and support them with necessary tools. The current scientific focus areas at the University of Würzburg are particularly in modeling and simulation, software architectures, multimodality, and immersion for serious, social, and mixed-reality games.
