Master of Education (M.Ed.)

About the Program

The Master of Education (MEd) in German follows the Bachelor of Education (BEd) and complements your teacher education Lehramt Gymnasium. After earning your MEd, you can be admitted to the teacher traineeship ("Referendariat"). The program consists of literary and linguistic modules. The literary modules teach you to analyse and reflect critically on literature and to speak and write about it with authority. You will study German literature of all epochs from the Middle Ages to the present as well as all genres of literature (prose, poetry, drama). The linguistic module deals systematically with the structure and history of the German language. In addition to subject-related content, you will have classes in didactics and education. The master's programme usually takes four semesters to complete, and you will be taking two major subjects as well as classes in educational science including a practical teaching semester.
