About the Program
German Studies at the University of Göttingen focuses on the analysis of language and literature as elementary human media of expression. As a full German Studies department, it represents the entire spectrum of linguistic and literary approaches. The program is divided into three areas: Germanic Linguistics (dealing with structures and use of German language), Germanistic Medieval Studies (covering German-language textual tradition from 9th to 16th century), and Literary Studies (covering German-language literature from Baroque to present). The B.A. program offers students the opportunity to acquire basic competences in all three sub-areas and develop their own research questions. The program provides excellent conditions for research with its seminar library, collection of historical children's and youth literature, and linguistic laboratories.
