About the Program

The Master's program in History is a four-semester research-oriented program. It builds on a previously completed successful degree and requires corresponding historical science competencies. The single-subject Master in History offers qualified students the opportunity to expand and deepen their knowledge and skills in historical science in a research and application-oriented manner by dealing with historical topics from the fields of politics, society, media, culture, constitution, and economy. From Ancient to Modern History, the curriculum covers all historical epochs, each of which can be chosen as a focus. Regional focuses also exist particularly in the areas of regional history, Western and Eastern European history, as well as in relation to the history of North America and the Mediterranean region; media history forms a systematic focus. The program places special emphasis on the teaching and practice of both theoretical and methodological as well as practical competencies for professional handling of historical sources and information.
