About the Program

The four-semester Master's program in History provides a research and problem-oriented deepening of historical knowledge. Special emphasis is placed on cross-epoch comparisons and developments. It enables students to independently apply historical methods to new subjects and research. Thematic focuses include cross-border relations, revolutions and upheavals, identities and experiences of foreignness, as well as questions of institutionalization and legitimacy of rule. The program is structured into an orientation phase in the first year and a specialization phase in the second year. Students can spend a semester at a foreign university during the second semester. The program prepares graduates for careers in academic research, archives, libraries, museums, publishing, journalism, education and cultural administration, as well as various roles in business such as public relations. The degree also qualifies graduates to pursue doctoral studies.
