About the Program

The International Bachelor's program in History, Languages and Cultures of the Middle East provides fundamental knowledge about the history and present, cultures, religions and languages of the target region. The main goal of the study is to acquire the ability to analyze complex historical and cultural contexts and thus to reflect on and classify current events. The acquisition of good passive and active language skills in at least one of the main languages of the Middle East (Persian, Arabic or Turkish) and basic knowledge in up to two other languages/language varieties is an integral part of the studies. The Islamic Studies focus provides knowledge about the history, culture, politics, literature as well as religious and legal traditions of the Middle East and North Africa, especially the Arab countries, in the pre-modern and modern period. The program includes a one-semester stay abroad in the focus region.
