Global Studies MA

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

In this degree programme, you take an in-depth look at globalisation and the accompanying processes in the countries of the Global North and the Global South from an interdisciplinary perspective. This means that approaches are combined from various subjects (e.g., global history, political science and cultural studies). One particular advantage of this programme lies in the international composition of the cohorts and the integrated study stay abroad. The programme is offered in cooperation with 14 partner universities worldwide including universities in Belgium, Denmark, Poland, Austria, Ethiopia, Canada, China, India, Australia, New Zealand, US, South Africa, and Cameroon. The degree course aims to enable students to engage responsibly and on an academic level with globalisation and its accompanying processes, and to work independently in this field. The master's programme comprises 120 credit points, with courses covering Global History, International Studies, Methods for the Study of Globalisation, World Orders under the Global Condition, Cultural Transfers under the Global Condition, and regionally focused modules. Special features include the international, English-language curriculum, joint degree options from multiple universities, integrated study abroad, winter and summer schools, and internship possibilities. The Erasmus Mundus Master in Global Studies (EMGS) is offered by an international consortium of five high-profile European participating universities, together with partner universities all over the world. The program provides excellent training for future careers both inside and outside academia, training experts who can analyze and navigate globalization processes from multiple perspectives. The EMGS programme was distinguished as a "TOP 10 International Master's Degree Courses" in 2008 by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for its innovative concept, high-quality teaching, excellent support service, and great alumni outcomes.
