Gräzistik

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The Master's program embeds the specialized knowledge acquired in the major subject in the interdisciplinary context of Ancient Studies. Ancient History, Greek Studies, Classical Archaeology, Latin Studies, and Prehistory and Early History share the common goal of developing a differentiated picture of ancient cultures based on often highly fragmentary sources. The first four disciplines focus on Greek and Roman culture in the context of other ancient cultures. The Master's program enables graduates to engage in independent scientific activity in their chosen major subject: Ancient History, Greek Studies, Classical Archaeology, Latin Studies, or Prehistory and Early History. Graduates acquire, in addition to practiced analytical ability of complex relationships and independent working methods, the ability to precisely and quickly penetrate complex texts and to understand ancient rhetorical theory and practice as the basis of communicative processes. The acquired skills allow either continuation of studies in a doctoral program or employment in museums, libraries, and publishing houses, as well as in seemingly unrelated professional fields such as politics, media, business, and industry.
