About the Program

The focus of research and teaching is on "historical musicology". The Master's degree aims to enhance knowledge and skills, especially in handling source material. The bachelor's program focuses on basic knowledge on how to deal with "classical" music and musical sources. Fields of work include archives, libraries, museums of cultural history, cultural departments in public administration, music schools and adult education, publishing companies and newspapers, theaters (esp. as dramaturge), concert agencies, music festivals, the film and record industry, television and radio stations. A master's degree may also open the path to a career in academia. Several key skills can be acquired during the course of studies, such as language skills, skills in creative and scientific writing, competence in handling software for text and music processing, communication and audiovisual presentation. A four-week internship is an obligatory component of the program.
