Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

The undergraduate program offers the opportunity to acquire in-depth foundational knowledge oriented towards current research questions. The focus is on the secure mastery of science-oriented subject content with the goal of encouraging students to engage in independent research and communication work based on art-scientific methods. In addition to acquiring well-founded knowledge about the history, reception, and aesthetics of modern to contemporary art, its techniques, genres, and media, the focus of the program is on an expanded repertoire of visual culture. It aims to build and deepen image and media-theoretical competencies and includes visual media such as photography, film and television, design-cultural artifacts, etc. Cultural studies, art sociology, and art education focuses provide the necessary qualifications for project-oriented engagement with reflected application and communication forms of the subject. The program focuses on (post)-colonial modernity to the present as a profile-forming starting point. The program has a professionally relevant orientation in the Communication module, which provides an institutional connection to later professional practice, especially through the project-oriented internship.
