History

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The focus of the subject of history is set on the in-depth study of textual, visual, audio, and material sources in the tradition of the epochs from antiquity to the present day. It also involves a critical examination of different research approaches and intensive reflection on basic categories of history such as time, space, and gender in political, legal, social, economic, and cultural contexts. The research projects and courses of the specialist Master's are oriented towards questions of space and the idea of "Europe" in its global interdependencies, centers and peripheries, borders and the blurring of boundaries. The aim of the course is to understand continuities and ruptures in the historical development of Europe as the basis of today's contexts and to raise awareness of the dependence of the present on the past in order to shape the future. The program qualifies students for an academic career with the possibility of a subsequent Doctorate as well as for work outside the university in the fields of science management, archives and libraries, museums and exhibitions, journalism and public relations, publishing, tourism and management consulting.
