Identity Design

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The Master's program Identity Design focuses on collective identity and communication design. It explores how collective identity can be made tangible and experienced, what constitutes identity-creating communication, and the role of communication designers in this process. As the only Master's program in Germany that enables an in-depth engagement with the topic of identity in this form, it offers creative thinking, playing, and testing spaces for addressing questions of social, cultural, and economic significance. The three-semester program begins with sensitization to various forms of collective identity expression, followed by self-initiated or cooperative projects in the second semester, and concludes with a master's thesis. Graduates work as experts in the creative industry, in interdisciplinary design offices, corporate branding agencies, as communication professionals in companies and NGOs, and as facilitators of development and participation processes in public institutions.
