About the Program

The M.A. International Political Economy of East Asia (IPEEA) is a unique program focusing on current political and economic issues in East Asian regions (China, Japan, and Korea). It qualifies students for demanding tasks in or related to East Asia, providing skills for multidisciplinary and multinational environments. The program is offered by Ruhr-Universität Bochum in collaboration with the Institute of East Asian Studies, University of Duisburg-Essen, and three RUB faculties (Economics, Social Science, and East Asian Studies). The program includes specialization in areas such as Foreign & Security Policy, Governments and institutions, Political culture and history, Regionalisation and internationalisation, East Asia and Global Economic Governance, and Political economics of East Asia. A stay abroad or an internship is mandatory in the 3rd semester.
