International Relations and Development Policy

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The master's program combines theoretical training in International Relations with intensive training in Development Policy. Besides covering relevant theories and topics of International Relations (regional cooperation and integration, international organizations, globalization, international economic relations, etc.), the program places special emphasis on theories of Global Governance, Peace and Conflict Research, North-South Relations, and development policy practice. A distinctive feature is its regional orientation on East Asia, Europe, and Africa (primarily Sub-Saharan Africa). The program includes an eight-week stay abroad between the 3rd and 4th semesters, which can have either a theoretical-academic or practical orientation. Regional specialization on two regions occurs in the third semester, and the master's thesis is completed in the fourth semester.
