About the Program

The Italian studies program for teaching at gymnasiums aims to enable students to conduct methodologically and substantively sound analyses of the language, literature, and culture of Italy. Students also receive the necessary tools to competently meet the requirements as foreign language teachers. They are enabled to confidently overview relevant linguistic and cultural phenomena and to convey their knowledge and skills to students. The program involves not only learning the language but also understanding the literature and culture of the country. Good language skills and interest in cultural phenomena are prerequisites for academic engagement. The standard study period is ten semesters and is structured in modules. For the planned study at the Institute of Romance Studies, study and examination achievements totaling 117 credit points including subject didactics must be completed. A three-month study-related stay abroad is necessary. Study areas include: Linguistics - Literary Studies - Cultural Studies - Language Practice - Subject Didactics.
