About the Program

The Jazz/Pop Bachelor of Music program focuses on improvisation as a way of life. The university's jazz/pop department is considered one of the best addresses for young musicians. Communication with and through music is at the heart of the course. In addition to teaching technical skills, aspects of self-professionalization and the promotion of individual artistic expression, the focus is particularly on the development of a musical culture of conversation. The focus of the course in Cologne is on ensemble playing, in addition to the study of the instrument. The program encourages students to look beyond their own artistic core area, both by engaging with diverse pop and jazz musical traditions and playing styles as well as through interdisciplinary cooperation with the classical and dance departments of the university. The course is only available in Cologne.
