About the Program

The Jungstudium (Junior Studies) at the Musikakademie Kassel is a pre-college program designed for musically talented students who are still attending general education school. The program aims to foster musical talent and individual artistic development as an instrumentalist, singer, or composer, preparing students for entrance exams to subsequent music studies. The program consists of two phases of four semesters (two years) each, typically completed consecutively. Students with demonstrated proficiency may be placed in higher semesters. The program focuses on artistic and musical development in a main and secondary subject, with pianists gaining experience as accompanists. Students also receive basic music theory training (general music theory, composition, and ear training) and participate in academy choir or orchestra rehearsals. Chamber music instruction is also provided. Students may receive credit for certain academic achievements, such as membership in a state youth orchestra. The program has been certified by the Central Evaluation and Accreditation Agency Hannover, meaning that credits and examinations can be applied toward future full-time studies at a music college, potentially shortening the duration of subsequent studies.
