Koreanistik [Korean studies]

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The Master's program in Korean Studies serves to deepen previously acquired linguistic, professional, and methodological knowledge of Korean Studies. The content focuses on 'Ideologies' as well as 'Media and Intellectual History', which are directly linked to the faculty's research priorities (mediality, culture, and technology) and the Korean Studies department (modern intellectual history of Korea, contemporary cultures of East Asia and North Korean studies, film history). Additionally, in the elective area, students can choose one of three profiles: 'Technical Language and Language Extension', 'Politics and Society in an International Context', or 'Art and Culture', each offering a different approach to Korean topics. These profiles are complemented by the seminar 'Research Methodology of International East Asian Studies', where recent research results are discussed. A semester abroad at a partner university in Europe (Paris, Leiden, Warsaw, Naples, etc.) or in the Korean-speaking region is an integral part of the program. Graduates can work in various fields including art and cultural management, interpreting/translation, editing, press and public relations, journalism, or tourism management.
