Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The Master's program in Art Education offers research-oriented deepening and differentiation. Images as communication carriers play a central role in contemporary culture dominated by digital media. Since the 1980s, art has experienced a rapid increase in social and economic significance. The program consists of two areas: a foundation area comprising three modules with an associated internship, and one of three selectable profile areas comprising five modules. According to the three sub-areas of art education, students can choose specializations in the areas of subject science, subject didactics, or subject practice. This allows students to develop a profile in one of these areas within the multi-part art education study, which involves accentuations with regard to research and, to some extent, future activities. The program is based on a broad concept of artistic education that addresses various aspects of the theory and practice of art and education and explores connections between them.
