About the Program

The Master's program "Language Diversity" is an integrative and interdisciplinary linguistic program in which two of the disciplines of English Studies, German as a Foreign Language, German Studies, Baltic Studies, Finnish Studies, Scandinavian Studies, and Slavic Studies can be combined. The focus of the study is on various aspects of linguistic action with their cultural, regional, social, and cognitive anchoring. In addition to individual philological courses, the Master's program is characterized by a research-oriented, integrative, and interdisciplinary study area that promotes knowledge networking and optimizes the social learning situation through various exchange opportunities. During your studies, you will deepen and expand your language skills and learn to systematically and critically-creatively grasp linguistic phenomena. The program focuses on theoretical approaches to synchronic description of linguistic systems; theories on cultural and social linguistic phenomena; traditional and modern language change theories; translational action and editing of texts; and theories and methods of modern language contact and multilingualism research.
