About the Program

Latin American Cultural Studies/Estudios culturales de América Latina is a degree program oriented toward cultural studies; it has an international focus and three languages of instruction (Spanish, German, English). The program is designed for students who desire to extend their knowledge of Latin America with regard to current debates and research in the field of cultural studies and, parallel to that, deepen their knowledge of the Spanish language. The program's content is conceived as an interdisciplinary study of the literary, language, media and historical-ethnological aspects of cultural processes in Latin America that relate to the present. Working with literary and cultural-anthropological studies, students explore current transformation processes and learn to analyze them in their social contexts and also in terms of their theoretical significance. This degree program is offered jointly by the Romance Studies and Anthropology of the Americas departments. This gives students the opportunity to grasp cultural processes also in their historical profundity. Possible lines of work: Academia (teaching/research at universities, research institutions, etc.), research/cultural management, media and publishing, international organizations/companies with focus on Latin America (foundations, public authorities, NGOs, tourism, etc.), development cooperation, public relations, adult education.
