About the Program

The Master's program in Latin Studies (Latinistik) embeds specialized knowledge within the interdisciplinary context of ancient studies. The program focuses on Greek and Roman culture in the context of other ancient cultures, alongside Ancient History, Greek Studies, Classical Archaeology, and Prehistoric and Early History. The curriculum includes eleven modules (three mandatory modules, six based on the specialization, and two elective modules). The Master's thesis is written in the 4th semester and must be defended in a colloquium. The program enables graduates to engage in independent scientific work in their chosen field. Graduates acquire analytical skills for complex contexts, independent working methods, the ability to quickly comprehend complex texts, and an understanding of ancient rhetorical theory and practice as the basis of communicative processes. Career opportunities include pursuing doctoral studies or working in museums, libraries, publishing houses, as well as in politics, media, business, and industry.
