Lehramt Musik MASTER

Master of Education (M.Ed.)

About the Program

The Master of Education in Music (M.Ed.) is a joint program of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and the Evangelical School of Church Music. It aims to fill the ongoing high demand for music teachers. The program is designed for musicians who want to qualify for teaching music in secondary schools and high schools based on a completed artistic or artistic-pedagogical music degree. Students further develop their musical skills, with a focus on either instrumental or vocal areas depending on their previous qualifications. The curriculum includes practical piano playing, choir and ensemble conducting, voice training, composition/arrangement, and other musical subjects to prepare for the diverse musical challenges of modern music education. In music didactics courses, students engage with fundamental music-didactic concepts, processes, and models. This aims to develop student-centered, modern, and versatile music lessons that include popular and historical music cultures, diverse music practice, and the use of digital media. These teaching models are tested and implemented in school practice exercises and internships. Students also acquire basic educational qualifications in pedagogy and psychology. The master's program aims to enable students to conceptualize, design, evaluate, and reflect on music lessons in their future role as music teachers.
