Literaturwissenschaft

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The Master's program focuses on literature in both a broad and strong sense: with many literatures and their interactions, and with the cultural significance and impact of literature. It is aimed at students with a degree in a single-philological bachelor's program who want to further qualify in literary studies and broaden their horizons. With an inter-philological orientation, the program combines a broad, transnational and trans-historical perspective with thorough literary theory training; at the same time, it offers the opportunity to focus on one language or comparative literature. The program understands literary studies not as a small specialized field of high culture, but as the literary constitution of the cultural worlds in which we live. The program places special emphasis on practicing a literary-scientific approach to texts and the world. The structure includes a core area exclusively for students of this program, a focus area where students choose between German Studies, Comparative Literature, Romance languages or Slavic languages, and an elective area where they can freely choose additional courses from the participating institutes.
