About the Program

Media and Cultural Studies are concerned with the interaction of mediated processes of communication and socio-cultural orders, dealing with central topics such as media history, media theory and media analysis. The B.A. programme imparts methodologies for examining the cultural transfer of media and correlations of technology and culture as well as their politicization, drawing from a vast array of scientific subdisciplines such as Film Studies, Acoustic Studies, Popular Culture Research, Game Studies, Digital Studies, Gender Studies and Performance Studies. This broad theoretical framework allows for a diverse range of approaches to current as well as historical media phenomena and the development of innovative research questions. Aside from seminars, lectures, and practical courses offering insight into various occupational fields, special emphasis is placed on the conceptualization and realization of self-developed projects like exhibitions, movies or sound collages. In order to enable self-study and Blended Learning, the programme's portfolio is complemented by digital services.
